This year’s theme: From Mandates to Movements: Reclaiming Equity and Freedom in Higher Education — calls on educators, students, and advocates to come together in a powerful teach-in model focused on action, strategy, and collective care.

Rooted in the work of Black Brown Dialogues on Policy, this growing coalition continues to create space for dialogue, solidarity, and advocacy across Texas.

Black History Month began as a bold commitment, not as a momentary tribute--a chance to study, honor, and uplift the full scope of Black life, culture, and contributions. More than a century after Dr. Carter G. Woodson helped launch this movement, that charge still matters.

Black history is not just something we remember. It is something that shapes who we are, how we teach, and what equity and belonging look like today.

At TADOHE, we celebrate the voices, scholarship, resilience, and leadership of Black students, educators, entertainers, and changemakers, from Bessie Coleman to Beyonce, at HBCUs to business rooms, and all the history before and hereafter.

We recommit to creating educational spaces where every story and every achievement is valued, this month and always.

On this #mlkday, TADOHE honors the lives, learning, light, and leadership of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King. Their advocacy, activism, and unapologetic fight for civil and human rights echoes in our continued work today—to bring about a country and world that celebrates diversity, fosters inclusion in community, and provides equity in opportunities and resources.

Let us follow their lead and take heed to their call to act, to serve, to uplift today and evermore. #mlkweekend

This Native American Heritage Month, we acknowledge that our Texas community is built upon the ancestral homelands of diverse Native nations, including the Comanche, Caddo, Apache, and many others. We remember the complex history of conflict and displacement that shaped our state.

Today, we celebrate the vibrant presence of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe, and the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, who continue to enrich Texas with their cultures and sovereignty.

We commit to honoring them not just in November, but year-round. We encourage you to support Indigenous-owned businesses in Texas and learn the full history of our state.
